What’s needed in this case is a caching proxy server where all people behind the firewall funnel their feed requests to an internal system. The internal system will check (based on the URL of the feed) whether it has downloaded the RSS feed recently and will provide the cached copy instead of bothering the RSS server. Once the minimum time between updates has passed, the proxy will get a fresh copy of the RSS feed.
The script below will do exactly what just mentioned. Besides it’ll also do some house-keeping on the feeds, display a list of all available feeds when hit without any argument and compress feed contents before storing them in the database.
1) let’s assume you install the script at http://rssproxy.mycompany.com/rssproxy.pl
2) you want to provide a proxy for the slashdot rss feed at http://slashdot.org/index.rss
3) you would ask your users to use the feed http://rssproxy.mycompany.com/rssproxy.pl/slashdot.org/index.rss instead of the original feed.

A rather quaint trait of the Apache Lucene project's homepage is that the search is actually powered by Google. Shouldn't Lucene — an open source search technology project — be able to improve on that?
The short answer is: yes. At the ApacheCon Lucene meetup in Amsterdam, Erik Hatcher gave a demo of LucidFind, which is based on Solr — one of Lucene's more productized flavors. (Incidentally, this was one of the fastest demos I've ever seen — it may have lasted for all of two minutes). LucidFind searches most of the public sources for Lucene (including wikis and mailinglists) and related projects (such as Solr, Nutch, and Mahout), and then allows you to drill-down into the results using faceted navigation. You can narrow results down on project, source, and author.

Install davfs2:
sudo apt-get install davfs2Create mountpoint:
sudo mkdir /media/davAdd your DAV share to fstab to mount as non-root user. As sudo, edit /etc/fstab and add the following line at the end:
https://example.com/yourdir /media/dav davfs rw,noauto,user 0 0Now as a normal user, simply mount using:
mount /media/davType your username and password and it's done!
To automatically mount the DAV share on system startup, replace "noauto" with "auto" in the line added to /etc/fstab
Then put your username/password in /etc/davfs2/secrets. As root, do:
echo "https://example.com/yourdir username password" >> /etc/davfs2/secrets

This post is an update to two posts I wrote previously on how to make your network shares mount automatically when you start up your Ubuntu Linux computer. In this method we modify the fstab file so that when all the file systems are mounted the network shares are mounted as well.

We are certainly interested to make MM closer to Linux users and I'm wondering could you all do small test?
1. Rename Plugins Folder and start MM under Wine it should start MM better
2. Make new Plugins Folder and Copy out_wave.dll From renamed forlder and use Third party MP3 Input plugin like http://otachan.com/in_!mpg123_118ot112.1.7z
3. Start MM and try to play any MP3 File it should be much better.
4. Try to add other file Format Support plugins (In_* and corresponding F_*) -

So we created Stan. Stan’s a worker at a typical company facing the same kinds of issues we all face. (Not those kinds of issues. Work issues!) He can’t find what he needs to find to get his job done. Then he discovers the beauty of enterprise search.
As is often the case around here, we got a little carried away with Stan. Well, heck. We ended up creating a whole website around this cute little guy. So do our Marketing folks a favor and visit the site.
Forgive our lack of modesty, but the site’s pretty cool. You can see Stan videos, read his blog (everyone is blogging these days, even made-up people), look at frequently asked questions, and, oh yeah, learn even more about enterprise search.

The Dell Linux Engineering team has a customized copy ISO of the Ubuntu 8.10 Live DVD available for download. It is important to note that this actually contains the identical live filesystem as the 8.10 DVD. A majority of the work for enabling Ubuntu is included in the 8.10 stable release updates (SRUs). If you already have installed or upgraded to 8.10, there is very little incentive to install this. By using this disk, you will gain these customizations:
-
On factory-installed systems, Ubuntu 8.10 can be re-installed via 3 different methods:
* From hard drive (recommended): By using the GRUB menu at boot time.
* By using the DVD ISO created after the system is received.
* By using a USB key created after the system is received -
Ubuntu Live USB Creator (usb-creator) is an official tool to create Live USBs of Ubuntu from the Live CD or from an iso image. The tool is already included in Ubuntu 8.10, but can also be installed on Ubuntu 8.04.

One day last summer, Google’s search engine trundled quietly past a milestone. It added the one trillionth address to the list of Web pages it knows about. But as impossibly big as that number may seem, it represents only a fraction of the entire Web.
Beyond those trillion pages lies an even vaster Web of hidden data: financial information, shopping catalogs, flight schedules, medical research and all kinds of other material stored in databases that remain largely invisible to search engines.

This pages describes how to install Ubuntu by copying the contents of the installation CD to an USB drive (such as a self-contained flash drive or a Memory Stick or SD card reader) and making the USB drive bootable. This is handy for machines like ultra-portable notebooks that do not have a CD drive but can boot from USB media.
The main steps are:
* Prepare the USB drive
* Boot the computer from your USB drive.
* Install Ubuntu as you would from a normal boot CD

I don' think so. First of all, as Alan mentioned, Autonomy is basically a holding company, which acquired in Interwoven a vendor that was actually a roll-up player itself. This deal was about accumulating license and maintenance streams, first within Interwoven, and now with Autonomy. In these sorts of take-overs, technology "synergies" come later — if ever at all. Autonomy will keep selling and upgrading TeamSite for as long as it generates revenues.

Enterprise software vendors will point out that a survey does not a trend make. Denial is okay, but I think the open source options are going to benefit from the present economic downturn and the emergence of companies like Lucid Imagination, Tesuji, and Lemur Consulting who offer open source software and professional services.

Enterprise search vendor Simplexo announced today that it has integrated its search functionality into Outlook, allowing business users to access enterprise content from a familiar interface.
"Simplexo lets you search from where you work," said chief executive Alistair Handyside. "With instant access to enterprise-wide information, Outlook users can improve decision making and service levels, and even reduce the headache of regulatory compliance and corporate governance."

Evernote is one of the most desired software application for taking down notes, pictures, videos, etc. But the bad news for Linux/Ubuntu users is that Evernote installable is only available in Windows XP/Vista and Mac. There is no Linux support.
But using wine I was easily able to install Evernote on my Ubuntu. The steps are as follows:

For information management, databases offer precise, controlled access to data. But, they do not offer the easy-to-use search capabilities that most knowledge workers manipulate daily on sites such as Google. Access to information contained in databases is more difficult, and more restricted. One solution to this information bottleneck is to let search engines support the brunt of the work, by offloading information from the database into alternative infrastructures, such as that provided by search engine technology. Many business applications such as search, report generation and data analysis might be performed more efficiently on the replicated data without involving the native database technology, e.g. transactions. These offloaded databases, retaining some of their structure, can be recombined, mashed up, creating one-off, possibly disposable, databases, while the primary data is safe in the original database. information management (IM) applications.
